Fury VS FFA

Now, after all the World Cup nonsense, Fury have one thing on their minds, staying afloat! With 2 more players (Payne and Malik) announcing they're moving on next year, Middleby, Straka and Krayem are busy with their staff getting a Community ownership draft on the books for FFA, and with the latest news of the Sydney Rovers Franchise not given a chance for the 2011/12 season, due to lack of capital, meaning Fury may have some bad news coming their way. The FFA are still looking for a second team for a Sydney franchise to make that 12th team as the FFA have the schedule to worry about. There have also been talks about a possible bid for a Canberra or Tasmanian team to join next season. Hopefully expanding to make more exciting Football.

FFA saying that fans have been complaining about the odd number of teams, making byes for each team and then Franz Straka had a go at nearly everyone in the post match talk in Gold Coast last week, about the fact that the schedule coming up the christmas is not for the light-hearted and probably the cause of his absence from the sideline against Adelaide last night.

As much as Fury hate to admit it, the off-pitch politics with their predicament has had an affect on their games, and it's unfortunate to see that happen to such a young, versatile team, which had so much potential at the start of the season, to rock the table. Well we know that hasn't happened, so far.

We shall see how this roller coaster of news will pan out and hopefully we will see all back next year, but we will see! The best the fans can do is keep our heads up, turn up and "Stand up for Fury", and make sure you have done your bit in making sure they have your support.

Next game is this Wednesday (15 Dec) at 7pm (LOCAL- at Dairy Farmers, Townsville) versus last season's Grand Final winners Sydney. Shall be a cracker!

Big Shots to be Cut Down From High Horse

The weekend has brought some confidence for the Newcastle side, after they defeated LA Galaxy (again) 2-1, but it's time for the Jets to come down from their castle and play their first game against Fury, this season. Only one point is between Fury (11th) and Jets (9th), and only a win away from being equal with 8th placers, Sydney. There are only 4 points separating the Fury from the top six. If we want a place in the roster next season, I think it's time to get big wins on the board. David Williams showed some class in our mid-week game against rivals Gold Coast, having a shot some 25 yards out, deflecting from the crossbar and in the net. More shots outside the box will have to take place more often, A-League defence is very last minute in some games, once attackers are in the box then they defend and tackle. Take more shots like Dave and we will start winning games, we have the muscle to have rocket-like shots from out there, we've seen Hughes, a defender, take shots from nearly halfway!

Come on down to the "Saturday Night Fever" match versus the Newcastle Jets. Gates open at 6.45pm!

FFA Cup a better Reality

The World Cup winning bids have been announced and it didn't include Australia!!! BUGGER!! So, now what has Ben Buckley got in stall for us?? He had promises for Fury that they will not be made defunct if Australia won the bid to host the 2022 World Cup, but now that this is not a reality, FFA have to come up with another game plan to help the survival of Fury and maybe even the whole A-League competition.

With the addition of an FFA Cup now more definite than World Cup, the FFA need to keep a bigger competition running to involve something like Europa League, where lower grades compete as equals. This will mean our State League teams, and probably the Capital City's Premier teams, will be in the FFA Cup to make another competition for Australian Football.

With A-League in its 6th Season as a competition, taking over from the old National Soccer League (NSL), Football in Australia has come a long way. One being that we officially call the beautiful game Football, and not Soccer, as some westerners have come to call it. And secondly, it has generated the biggest junior following of the game, that anyone in Australia has ever seen. There are more kids playing the game, whether it be in schoolyards, on a pitch, or following a favourite team; Australia has a following that is an underdog of its own, where we are the only ones that actually PLAY FOOTBALL!

There are 8 years until Australia can bid for the World Cup again, in time for 2030/2034 games. We will be up against heavyweights in the likes of USA and England again, but what we have achieved in the past 5 years, in 2 World Cups and in our 6th A-League season, can only grow, and hopefully Fury are in that future!

Head up Australia! It can only get better!

A Winning Formula.... For The Fans

With the game versus Roar going to a draw in the last 5, Straka has found the formula, that was produced in the game, will be the thing that picks up Fury from the bottom of the ladder. With 3 games in the pocket, Fury can gain a few extra points along the way, because many of the big guns have played up to 17 games with Fury only playing 14.

Fury is not even halfway through their season yet (16 games is halfway), and people are still writing them off, with 17 games in the season to go. Straka has written in the Townsville Bulletin "Against the Brisbane Roar I think we may have found that blend and with it a formula that brings much success to the Fury.... Nothing annoys me more than bland, defensive and unattractive tactics. It's not fun for the players, me or the fans. In my eyes, what we did against Brisbane very much steadied the ship and was a big step in the right direction. And with the players we have up front in David Williams, Isaka Cernak, Dyron Daal and Adam Casey we have exactly that."

Fury need to build the Home Games up to where they have been, instead of worrying about the "incompetence" of local referees, they need to worry about the game in front of them. The crowd seem to have more effect on the Fury; whenever the fans start chanting Stand Up, If You Like Fury or are yelling at the refs, Fury seem troubled and distracted instead of playing the whistle.

Perth are on a troubled run as well, placed 9th and just out of reach with 4 points in Perth's favour; although, a win this weekend will put Fury above Sydney. There will goals galore in this Derby of the ex's. I don't know why but Fury have many derby's and rivals, I think it's a great part of this season's character, it makes this season exciting for all, another great point for the FFA to look at and discuss whether or not they just want a good season or an exciting season for the fans.

Players lost.... and won!!

With speculation over what FFA are doing with their control over the finacial backing, there is some good news!!!
Fury have signed a local boy, Lorenzo Sipi. Not being a fully fledged Footballer, but for the past 2 years has been playing for NQ Razorbacks at Right Fullback but, much to the likings of Dave Williams' and Chris Grossman's playing, is very versatile, moving into Centre Midfield at times. The 19 year old has been signed for the remainder of the year and hopefully will stay with Fury next season.

Pasfield has NOT signed with Mariners, although the media has reported it so, they are WRONG! read more Unfortunately for Fury, though, young star Isaka Cernak is heading to Victory for next season. read more

Eric Akoto is out with scans revealing he has a grade 2 tear of the medial ligament (Knee).

With Straka and McLaren back to fire the Fury up and us, the crowd, we need to show the Mariners this weekend that they were lucky, just over a month ago, with their 3-2 win.

This is a match not to miss!!! Yet another little derby within A-League.

New VS Old... Straka VS Fergy!!!

Friday, 15 October 2010
North Queensland Fury v Perth Glory, Dairy Farmers Stadium, Townsville 8:30pm (EDT) - 7:30pm QLD time
Whether or not Fowler will play or not is still unknown, although everyone is denying him coming near his ex-club's home ground. Franz Straka is adamant that Ferguson needs a full-strength squad, and without Fowler is probably better off. With Straka allowed back on the bench, the antics from the sideline are going to continue and the crowd will get behind Straka with boisterous fury. "It's my lifestyle, it's me ... I'm on the line. I think it's very important to be on the bench with my boys. They have to know that the coach is there."
With Straka on the bench, Ferguson's new position as head of the Perth side will be a little different with having only one home training before leaving for the tropics. With Perth hanging their heads after a "shocking run" of 4 game losing streak, Fury should be already ahead of them in three ways, the summer heat has hit NQ like the festive season is here already, and secondly the Perth side are already hanging their heads, and thirdly, and most importantly, Talay is back, enough said.
Teams are as follows (Full Squads):
North Queensland Fury: 1. Justin Pasfield (gk), 2. Jack Hinegrt, 3. Brad McDonald, 4. Eric Akoto, 5. Mark Hughes, 6. , Ufuk Talay (c), 7. Gareth Edds, 9. Eugene Sseppuya, 11. David Williams, 13. Andre Kilian, 14. Chris Grossman, 15. Chris Payne, 16. Simon Storey, 17. Osama Malik, 18. Brett Studman, 19. Isaka Cernak, 21. Jason Spagnuolo, 28. Sebastian Usai (gk)*three to be omitted*

In:
Brett Studman (promoted), Jason Spagnuolo (promoted) , Ufuk Talay (returns from suspension)
Out: Dyron Daal (suspended – one week)
Unavailable: Adam Casey (calf – one week), Matthew Ham (knee – three weeks)

Robbie Middleby to Step Up As Coach

Not Impressed- Straka (Suzanne Lowe - News Ltd)
Well it has come about that Straka and McLaren are to step down for this game, as Robbie Middleby steps up with the Goal Keeper Coach, Ken Mitchell (NQ Razorbacks FC coach) alongside him, giving Fury their Half-time talk in the dressing rooms. Even after all the reprimand Fury staff have given both Coach and Assistant Coach over the past week, the FFA have stepped in and said it's "not good enough".

There are also speculations as to whether Fury ex-captain Robbie Fowler will touch down today, if at all, for the game Friday night.

McBreen to Pay: "...there's no friends in football..."

McBreen- Fury Last season
McBreen this season ruthless in scoring
Round 9 Previews and Teams in full

Central Coast Mariners v North Queensland Fury, Bluetongue Stadium, Saturday, 5.15pm (EST)

Central Coast Mariners have been miserly in defence this season making good on Graham Arnold’s pre-season promise. They also continue to improve their home record having not lost at Bluetongue since New Years Eve. The Fury is coming off a hectic road trip that took in matches in trying conditions in both Wellington and Sydney. They will be buoyed by their late comeback against the Sky Blues but I can’t see them breaking their 12 game winless streak on the road just yet. A well rested Coast will be keen to take sole ownership of second place with all three points.

Matt Ham is going in for his knee surgery this week and is due to have a 6 week rehabilitation program before starting to get match-fit. Daal is back, hungry for goals, and Hingert is hungry for more time on the park, after midweek action proved him a valuable prospect for Fury to use off the bench.

The Fury will also have former player Daniel McBreen to contend with, and ex-teammate Jack Hingert said he was certain the striker would be intent on punishing his old side. But the youngster vowed it would not happen on his watch. "Off the pitch we're all still friends, but on the pitch there's no friends in football," Hingert said. "I'm going to do all I can to make sure he doesn't score, because I'm sure we won't hear the end of it if he does." From today's Townsville Bulletin

The teams are as follows:

Central Coast Mariners: 2 Daniel McBreen, 3. Joshua Rose, 4. Pedj Bojic, 5. Brad Porter, 6. Patrick Zwaanswijk, 7. John Hutchinson, 8. Rostyn Griffiths, 9.Nik Mrdja, 10. Patricio Perez, 11. Oliver Bozanic, 14. Michael McGlinchey, 17.Chris Doig, 18. Alex Wilkinson (c), 19. Matt Simon, 20. Mathew Ryan (gk), 23. Adam Kwasnik, 30. Paul Henderson (gk)

In: Oliver Bozanic (returns from national team duty), 9.Nik Mrdja (returns from back injury), 17.Chris Doig (returns from calf injury)
Out: Nil
Unavailable: Trent Sainsbury (knee – 2 weeks), Jess Vanstrattan (knee – season), Mustafa Amini, Sam Gallagher, Marc Warren (national team duty)

North Queensland Fury: 1. Justin Pasfield (gk), 2. Jack Hingert, 3. Brad McDonald, 4. Eric Akoto, 5. Mark Hughes, 7. Gareth Edds (c), 9. Eugene Sseppuya, 10. Dyron DaaL, 11. David Williams, 12. Panagiotis Nikas, 13. Andre Kilian, 14. Chris Grossman, 15. Chris Payne, 16. Simon Storey, 17. Osama Malik, 18. Brett Studman, 19. Isaka Cernak, 21. Jason Spagnuolo, 28. Sebastian Usai (gk)

1 down 2 to go!! Fury need wins over Sydney and Mariners

Getty Images- Townsville Bulletin
With a miss kick of the ball by Pasfield in the 3rd minute, Fury looked to be better off when Akoto got tackled from behind and subsequently giving Phoenix the ball for another "Gift", slotting it just over Pasfield's hand hitting the wood work before rebounding in, making the Phoenix 2nil up in the first 13 minutes.

With a rough start to what was a promising away campaign, Fury should be trying to put that one behind them, as they look onwards and upwards to get their second win of the season. As last season's Champions, Sydney, have not yet secured a single win this season.

Let's hope the physiotherapists and Sport Scientists, Pete Fowler, Paul Parker and Luis Resa, are hard at work on the boys, to get them ship-shape for another win on the board, and make sure last season's Champions don't get a chance to climb the ladder.

I'll keep you updated with any news from NQ Fury whilst away for the next week with two games left in as many days.

C'mon FURY!!!
